In this creativity workshop, we will concentrate most of our energies on generating new ideas for our work through a series of writing exercises and discussions designed to seduce the muse. The emphasis will be on expanding our craft and experimenting with form in order to amplify our sense of narrative possibilities. Who gets to tell your story? How do you invite mystery and randomness into your work? What roles can obsession, ritual, and pleasure play in your writing? Assignments will include creative responses to poetry, photography, and music as well as numerous other strategies to enrich and enliven your writing, to unleash, as Grace Paley once said, " . . . what you don’t know about what you know." You can expect to return home with ten pages of new work and ideas for a hundred more.
